2004 Interceptor 212, 5.0 Volvo Penta

Postby Kelman77 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 12:08 am

Hello, I'm brand new to this forum, I just recently purchased my 2004 Interceptor ,it has a 5.0 Volvo Penta GXi, 150 hours, in like brand new condition. I was hoping that someone could give me their recommendation on two Props , I would like to know what's best, 1. For top speed and running around, and 2. Best for pulling skier and tubes... Number of blades, pitch, diameter...etc. Oh ...We are some good sized fellows 225lbs-270lbs...Good OL' Kentucky Boys that will be getting pulled on the tubes...Good sized loads... Any Help appreciated ,Thank You !!

Hi Welcome to the forum, looks like you got same rig as mine 5.0L VP Gxi 270Hp,
from my experience leave the stock prop on for general cruising, it should be 21Pitch 3 bladed prop, most likely aluminum one.
For wakeboarding and tubing a 4 bladed stainless prop with 19 pitch works for us really well, pulls like a tractor and tops about 50MPH with a light load. Please use https://imgbb.com/ to upload photos of your boat, photobucket have lost it and want to charge for 3rd party hosting.
Give me a private message ,I can email a workshop manual for your outdrive.

21P 14.5 3B SS prop and 19P 4B SS for wakeboarding and tubing.

Thank you for the reply AndrewT, My boat had 2 pros with it, 1..21 pitch 3 blade,2nd was on the boat,It’s a 23 pitch 3 blade(it is brand new) I have a lot of friends wanting to go tubing,so I will definitely get the 19 pitch,4 blade.

Don't bother even trying the 23P. You may be able to hit the minimum WOT RPM, but it won't gain you anything over the 21 and your holeshot will suffer. I had a '05 212 with the 5.0 MPI.
Boatless, again.

Thank You for all the Help. I will definitely take the 23p off. When I buy my 3 Blade Stainless Steel 21p and the 4 Blade Stainless Steel 19p, What diameter do I need ? They have,14", 14 1/8", 14 1/2",14 3/4"..etc.

Not sure, the 3 bladed one that I run is a genuine Volvo Penta prop and there is no choice of diameters, the 4 bladed 19p is a Solas brand 14 1/8 diameter.
