Water pump help.

Postby GaMatt72 » Tue Nov 01, 2016 4:54 pm

New owner of a 2002 212 Interceptor and realized it needs the water pump rebuilt. The motor is a volvo penta 5.7gi-m if that makes a difference. Lol. But I want to know if there is a way to make more room or easier access to the pump? Can I remove the panel between the back seat and the motor or something? I see that the back rest is mainly solid but in the lower storage I was unsure. Thanks!

2005 212 must be different to the 2002, I have plenty of room to access the front of the motor,I think that the seat or base may be removable, hopefully a member with an early 212 may shed some light on it.

Thanks! Yeah I have maybe a foot of space. I need to find a breakdown on how to remove what I can without messing anything up. Pictures or something.

Well My father in law and myself tackled it and got it done this past weekend. It took 3 hours but we did take a few breaks as the space was tight. Works like new now and he sais ask someone else next time. LOL

Should have taken some pictures and list some hints.
I changed the battery in mine and it's a real PITA,my battery sits right down the back in the starboard side below the walk way, need extra long arms with dislocated joints.I could have improved the access but I would have had to remove the walkway.
Whoever designed it should burn in hell.

Well no tip except find someone who has a good back and can bend up like a pretzel. Lol. My back is screwed up so I can not stay bent over. My father in law bent over the rear hatch to loosen the 3 allen-head bolts as I bumped the engine over. Then he got on in the engine bay on the port side. The side lays flat so to can access the side easier. Twisted up and put the screwdriver on the hose clamp and I loosened them and it took both of us to remove them. We didn't have to remove the bracket.
