Seat posts?

Postby RTWILL725 » Tue Oct 25, 2016 8:25 am

I am a novice boater with a recently acquired 212. I noticed that some one else posted about guage glare. My solution to this was to lay a bumper across the seat so that I can see over the windshield. Then I had the bright idea of putting taller seat posts in. After pulling the seats off of their posts; the posts are stuck solid. Does any one know if the posts are mated to the bases and can not be separated or are the bases just a very tight tapered fit?

Not 100% but on mine it looks as if the bases are mated to the posts.

Post and base are mated permanently. And the bases are as pain to change as the fasteners are under the floor. What I did was put a 2" riser directly under the seat. I built it out of metal square tubing. I still can't see over the windshield but the seats are just too low for my liking.

You can change the seat posts and go higher, but as stated it takes some work to get them secure. backtoboating.com carries Attwood who makes the orignal and upgraded posts. Or you can buy new bolster seats from there too. I love mine!

When you say original and upgraded posts.....would either one of those be the 238 series Bell Pedestal link on their home page?

It's been a while but I think the original equipment was the 9" post. I wanted to go to the adjustable but found out that one of the stringers runs under the center of the post where you would need to cut out a recess. Stayed with the original base and upgraded the seats to the Arego bolsters. Love them.
