Ski locker drainage problem

Postby whtevr » Mon Jun 19, 2006 9:57 am

I just bought a used '05 187 LS and really cleaned it good for the first time this weekend. I noticed that the water that ran into the ski locker did not drain. Is the water supposed to drain to the motor compartment to be either bilged out or to be drained thru the main drain plug? Evidently this drain is clogged by something, does anybody have a suggestion on how to clear that clog? This is my first boat and I do not want to cause any damage. Thanks for any help provided!

I have the same problem with my '05 207SL. Don't know a good way to fix it or where it is supposed to drain.

is the drain not just a hole between the low point in the ski locker and the bilge? if not, i'll bet it would be easy enough to make a hole.

I believe it is a slight clog because some of the water is verrrry slowly draining out. I think I am going to try sticking my hose end sprayer into the hole and forcing the water out. I will let you know what I figure out. I am not too keen on making any "new" holes in my boat.

I don't think that there is anything between the ski locker and the bilge that you could harm, so couldn't you use a rod of some sort to push through the existing hole? My boat isn't stored at my house so I can't look. Just an idea.

I tried using a electrical fish tape, but i believe the drain line has an elbow in it and I can't get the fish tape to bend with the elbow. I should be taking the boat home today or tomorrow and will try the hose. If that doesn't work, I will try my shop vac, if that doesn't work I think I will be calling the dealer.

any resolution to this?

I just picked up my 237LS, and the ski locker seems to be holding water, too. There was/is quite a bit of scrap stuff in the bottom, so that may be causing a clog. It sure seems funny that dealers don't clean this out as part of the make-ready

I was never able to get it to drain the way I thought it should. It still drains very slow. The dealer was of no real help. I just leave the bow as high as I can get it and let drain that way over several days.

so the vac didn't help?

maybe there's a way to get the boat high in the rear, and then pour some water into the bilge area. hopefully it could wash the trash back to the ski locker?????

While cleaning up my '07 187, I noticed that the ski locker wasn't draining right. I took the drain cover off in the locker and sprayed water forward from the engine compartment and the round scrap from where the factory cut a hole in the deck came out of the drain. I was able to wash it far enough forward to grab it. Now the locker drains correctly.
