Glad to finally be here. New to me 04 212 Interceptor

Postby Scoots » Fri Mar 03, 2017 6:51 pm

It took a while getting registered but glad to be here.

So heres the story.. been boating my whole life. Owned a boat before kids, pre 2k and didnt own another till 2 summers ago when I bought a close family friends 88 Sunbird Eurosport 5.7 Cobra which was bought new by them and well taken care of. End of the first season I thought the starter went so I bought a new starter. Starter would never seem to seat right and start. Finally took to a shop and they pronounced "hydrolock". Dont know if you guys, and gals are aware but thats when water is introduced into the cylinders from the risers and the starter cant overcome the increased compression. So I did risers and manifolds but could never get all of the water out of the oil so I decided tho let her go. That was late last summer, the family was bummed so while I had it listed on CL for peanuts I started a boat search.

Found this dirty, grungy 212 Interceptor sitting under a carport of a boat dealer at the local lake (lake Anna, Lake Country Marine) and they told me it had been there a while. I could tell there was a diamond in the rough so I went and got cash out of the bank and told them I wanted to sea-try and would probably take it if all went well. They gave me a bit of a round-around but it turned out they were swamped with work and just couldnt get to it. My job took a down turn so I quit calling. The Sunbird sold, again for peanuts and winter set in so the hunger subsided.

Fast forward to a week ago.. my new business is doing well and we had crazy warm weather here in VA so the family started asking again. I looked at a very unkept Maxum 20' 305efi and just wasnt seeing anything out there. I figured what the hell and hit LCM site and low and behold there it was in all its glory, even clean and in their showroom! I immediately got on the phone only to find out there were asking even more due to a fuel pump replacement, 4 new tires and some other small stuff. Seeing that the NADA was very close I agreed to come sea-try with the means to buy and the rest is history. The day we bought it we hit close to 80 degrees so the wife, the youngest and I took it up and down the lake quite a bit. What a great boat!!

Specs: 04 212 Caravelle Interceptor that I think was purchased in AR. Volvo 5.7Gi with captains choice. Not a rip anywhere, a few graphics damaged but docking but almost not noticeable. No snap-in carpets so I'll have to get them made.

Very sorry for the long post. Heres a pic, more to follow..

Nice boat, you'll make a lot of use out of the swim platform and it gives an extra couple of feet in the boat.
5.7 and captains call exhaust I'm jealous  . How many hours on it?Good upholstery shop should be able to knock up a set of carpets or you may possibly get a set in USA at Corinthian Carpets?Someone on the forum should know.
I had a local shop here in Oz make them for me ,they had done a good job.
Please post some more pictures.Enjoy her!

I didnt see an hour meter? which surprised me. I would ask what your carpet work cost but being down under Im sure the price wouldnt be relevant here. I'll be posting up some more pics soon as I get her back. After fully warm the captains choice quits working so the dealer is replacing the diverters, I hope. Thanks!

Good to see you finally made it! Nice looking boat. The tach has most likely been replaced at some point because an hour meter was standard equipment on the 212.
Boatless, again.

Very nice looking boat! I personally haven't seen a lot with those graphics. Got to love this warm weather! More days on the water are always a good thing.

I will take this weather all winter long, fine with me.

Yeah, I did a lot of Interceptor 212 research before I bought her and Ive never seen one with the color scheme mine has. Seen them with all yellow or all red but not the mix of both.

Wife calls her "Lola", I guess thats a common name for a sexy mistress, lol. It was lettered "We'll Manage" in the back by the previous owner. I decided to leave it because were not the wealthiest family by any means but have always "managed" to live a good life. Thanks for the compliment, looks like you'll be having some fun with your new toy also!

Just brought her back from the dealer today. When we took it out the day we bought it the Corsa captains call worked great for the first few times, after it warmed up it would no longer hold the open exhaust after switch to closed thru prop. Luckily we put in off the ramp right at the dealer so when we came back in I was able to get the dealer down to witness the issue. LCM at lake Anna has now replaced both Corsa diverters so I am hopeful I can show off my exhaust skills like a pro come boating season. ;-)

I also double checked, because the boat was back to the dealer when you asked but, there is no hour meter in the tach and its an exact matching faria like all of the other gauges. Weird huh?
