Jeeps

Postby dancaravelle267 » Tue Dec 13, 2011 12:15 am

Anyone on here a jeep guy? I have recently finished my semi restoration of my 1986 Jeep CJ-7. It looks great and I love driving it.

My Dad and I are about to start working on his 1941 Jeep in January. It has been sitting in the barn for 10 years. We used to run it around the ranch until it broke down and....well...there it sat. Just wondering if anyone else is in to that stuff since there is not much boating going on.

Not jeeps, but older land rovers, which is actually a very similar platform. I've done a few - complete frame swaps on Series IIa 88's (they rusted right out from under the aluminum body), engine swaps (put in a mercruiser variant 4 cyl) into a Series III 109, etc.

Looking for my next project now and was considering a CJ7 or a Scrambler, maybe.

Nope no jeeps here, always wanted to get into off roading tho. (more specifically rally cars/trophy trucks cause of the speed) I watched your youtube videos of your Jeep and it looks like a blast. Have any pics you could share? Before and after?

I love the old rovers. I would like to do a scrambler also but they are hard to find and more expensive to buy. Do you have any pictures?

Here are some pictures...maybe too many but here they are. I did more than the pictures show. I did some engine, suspension work, more interior work, bumpers...yada yada. It took me about three years of off and on work (time and money permitting).

Well, I never took the body off of the frame. Also, it only has 84,000 original miles on it (64k in the first picture). So, I did not need to rebuild the motor or tranny. I did replace all of the accessories, fuel lines, radiator, ignition, carb, and then some.

Wow that looks VERY nice. I love the snow pics she looks so pretty shinning in the sun. Is that from last winter when you guys got all the snow? (I'll have to admit it was funny seeing all the tuff texans complaining last year about some snow flakes and sweater weather.. lol j/k  )

What engine and gears in the rear?

Ya, that was when we got the big snow last year. It was melting off at that point.
The CJ has the original 258 6cyl with a t-176 4-speed manual with the original dana axles. I am pretty sure the rear end is 2:73. I have not read the code on it but that was pretty much the standard gear for that year as I have been told. It does fine in the city and on the highway (I don't do much highway) and it is good in 4wd low on very mild trails.

Nice CJ!

Here are 3 of mine (2 old, one new) that i've built or modded and eventually sold (though I completely regret it...). All 3 have seen quite a bit of action at Tellico and off road in general, prior to Tellico closing.

2000 D2, Daily driver and primary off roader. Sorry, but this thing would go just about anywhere I wanted to take it (I did not want to take it on lower 2 or school bus!). It was not a mall queen, at all. Nothing like off roading with dual climate control and leather seats...

Image

Series III 109, replaced motor, etc and drove it quite a bit, but ultimately needed the room and the cash...

Image

Series IIA 88 - complete frame swap in my driveway over a long weekend.

That's a great picture of the 2000 D2. That's a great looking daily driver. I also like the 109. A couple of month's ago, I was killing time on the net and stumbled across the 110's. They see to be rare in the states. I assume the 109 is too.
My wife and I were talking about towing the jeep to East TX this weekend for the day to an off road park. Its fun because I know the trails we can do without causing damage but that place you have a pic of your D2 looks great!

Those pics are stirring some old memories. My first jeep is the only one I still have CJ-2 basket case. My 80 CJ-7 4spd 304 V8 was fun too. The 86 cj-7 laredo with 258 bored over, hot cam, dual outlet hdrs, weber 2 bbl. flat out ran circles round any 304. One cold winter and that soft top got replaced with a hard top. Absolutely the funnest vehicle ever made. I also appreciate any toyota FJ or Landey

You have had a few! How was that hot cam in the 258? What effects did it have on performance and sound?
