Calling all Texans, ever been to the Texas mile?

Postby SummerDaze » Mon Aug 15, 2011 7:06 pm

I always watch videos from the youtube channel HighTechCorvette which gets most of their footage from the mile. Since it seems we have a lot of Texans on this forum I just wondered if anyone has ran their car or been there.

Bet we all can get to the marina alot quicker if this was our tow vehicle.

My record at the mile was 575.39 mph... but at 500 feet high. Back when it was Chase Field. The old days.

I didn't know they had converted it to racing. Great use of a middle of friggin' no-where place. I'm definitely going to have to check it out from ground level.

I flew F-16's out of Kelly Field in San Antonio for 16 years. We would drop into Navy Chase and do low approaches on occasion.

You lucky dog. How many g's could you pulled and what would you top out at? Thanks for your service.

Ok this isn't the texas mile it's more of the texas 1/4 water mile. Found it when I was looking for drag boat vids. 261mph if insanity. I feel like it's the fastest accelerating object I've ever seen. not really, but seesh was that fast. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6F8N8Z_4 ... ideo_title

You lucky dog

Yep, always better to be lucky than good.

I did 2.11 mach in Spain on a test flight. I don't remember the groundspeed but I often saw 1000 knots ground speed. I'd guess that the 2.11 run was probably over 1200. We didn't routinely fly around that fast, but we weren't going slow either. You usually were somewhere between 400-500 knots. A typical bombing run was at 540 knots. That's 620+ mph, over 10 miles a minute. The only way to go.

The F-16 is fly-by-wire and the computer limited the g's to 9. It might overshoot 9 by a view tenths. But I saw 9 g's on most air-to-air missions.

I'm late on this thread but jax, do you still do any flying?

I have never been to the mile track but last summer my wife surprised me with a day at the corvette Z06 driving school at Texas Motor Speedway. That was a blast! If you like that stuff I would suggest to try it!
