Sometimes Dreams Do Come True

Postby twindaddy63 » Tue Mar 09, 2010 5:34 pm

We just heard this week that our offer on a short sale made in July was accepted by the seller's bank! :D :D We have always wanted a place on the water, and it looks like it may happen. We vacation here regularly and love this area. (Gulf Harbors/New Port Richey) It is a boaters paradise. Now we won't have to rent--yeah! Though 10 years premature for our retirement, we decided that if we were ever going to be able to afford a house on the water, now it the time to get it.

We plan to rent the house out as a vacation rental, especially during the winter months when the snowbirds flock to the Florida shores. When it isn't rented, I am sure we will get our share of use of the place.

We have been truly blessed.

SWEET!!! congrats on a great place. MY wife and I did the same thing a couple of years ago with a waterfront place on a lake in East Texas. We plan to retire there and are actually going to move there full time this summer. It will definitely increase my drive time to the airport, but well worth the effort!!

Excellent. I grew up in Tampa and boated all over the West Coast. Great fishing out of NPR area. Get some good maps or GPS. There's islands to visit too.

Watch out for those oyster beds. They're usually right next to the channels so don't take any short cuts between the channel markers. My buddy ruined his lower drive with a "short cut."

Super house. Post rent info sometime!

Thanks for all of the comments. Yeah, Snow, I know what you are talking about concerning the oyster beds. We have been down there several times and made good use of my chart plotter and maps. No mishaps yet, and getting to know the area pretty good. Almost got caught in shallow water 3 miles offshore between Gulf Harbors and Anclote, strong low tide and not paying attention. Cruising along at dusk, not watching the GPS track and suddenly saw the tips of sea grass poking out of the water--maybe 12" of water, depth finder just blinking. First instinct--pull off the throttle--bad move coming off of plane--now need 30" of water minimum to get back on plane--slow idle out of shallow for maybe a half mile. Doesn't sound far--unless the sun is quickly dropping as well as the tide. Made it OK and learned a lesson along the way.

The islands, Anclote, Sandbar, Honeymoon, Caladisi--wonderful day trips, kids love it. We have cruised to Clearwater, hope to make Edgmont Key this year. Would like to cruise on down to Sannibel and Cabbage Key, but that is a haul--looks to be over 100 miles one way. Guess I need a bigger boat! :D

The water between mainland and Anclote is usually really nice for water sports and early mornings can be like glass.

I will post rental info when it is ready. I would love to have you guys down and enjoy this area.

I always wondered who owned those huts.

Always a good party at Shepards in Clearwater Pass, bands bar and music. And, I love the John's pass area in St. Pete (and Gators there.)
