We might be able to make either.... same though, never know with work. Belton is about 2.5 hrs from us and 3.5 to Whitney.

I found 2 perfect coves this weekend out at whitney, they are both in no wake zones and sheltered from the wind. But its like 40ft deep in one and 60ft deep in the other so make sure you have a bunch of anchor line. Lol

I'm fine with either. Since its always a crap shoot with my job as to if I can make, why don't some of the guys that know that they will be there decide between the two lakes.

I will try my best to make it out. It has been a crazy summer that has cut into my boating time. My first choice would be Whitney, only because I know the lake.

Looks like there is concern about lake belton due to everyone's lack of experience on the lake. Several people are familiar with Lake Whitney and several perfer it. So, how about we all meet there on August 18th????
We will probably come down early Saturday morning and stay until Sunday afternoon. There are cabins on the lake and Hillsboro is only 15 miles from the dam. There are hotels there. Sound good..Please chime in....

We are planning on being there. The hotel option sounds good.

Cliffview marina has cabins for rent, uncle gus' marina has cabins for rent, and there are numerous campgrounds as well. I do reccomend if anyone will be renting a cabin or campsite to do so in advance, they tend to fill up quick. I believe there is a small hotel at the damn, and maybe one in whitney. If you are going to camp I highley recomend McCowen park. If anyone has any questions about whitney I should be able to answer them.

Unless it's changed names - last time (year before last) we met up at a place called Juniper Cove. They had cabins that some members stayed in and had a ramp and slips you could rent.

We drove up for the day and just paid the launch fee.

Coming from Lake Travis and Lake Austin as my usual lakes, Lake Whitney was intimidating – well was for me – all the tree stumps sticking out everywhere sure had me on guard! I got there a few minutes late and the others blasted off up river. Before heading up there, I found a map of the lake and used that along with my gps to navigate way up river to hook up with them. Once we all headed back and followed someone who knew the way it wasn’t as bad. Until I got way behind because the kid was on the tube. Then when I got down near Steele Creek Park, I found myself in 6’ of water surrounded by trees! Eventually, found my way out to open water and caught back up with the group at some bluffs near Walling Bend Park.

All in all, it was a great day. If something changes in my schedule, I’ll try to make it – but if not, you folks enjoy and be safe!

Hope you can join us.

The tree stumps are at the far north end of the lake where the river dumps into it. The rest of the lake is pretty tree free. The water is very deep other than th north end. Reminder... I what 95diy said. Bring long anchor ropes.

95, which no wake zones were you speaking of to raft up in?

Are most driving up Saturday morning? If so what time and where should we meet? Juniper cove or at the ramp near the SE side of the dam off of 22? That might be easier? Thoughts?

What time? 10 am..11?

I plan on being there between 10 and 11. I will put in at Cedar Creek park, which is across the cove from Juniper Cove Park.
