Summer Boating Trip

Postby River Rat » Mon May 10, 2010 4:10 pm

Hi All:

Well, we are looking at maybe changing up our yearly adult only summer boating trip. We usually run the Mississippi River up to NE Iowa, but am considering the Ozarks for an option this summer. Anyone with comments, suggestions and recommendations on places to stay would be appreciated.

Thanks.

LOZ is GREAT! Just don't go on a holiday and probably even weekends the big boys are out. 23 footers in that water when their out severly hampers your ability to NAVIGATE

agree with HP 100%, LOTO (at the lower 30 mile markers at least) isn't a lake for 23 footers on a summer weekend. i hear it's awesome if you have the mid-week option though.
Boatless, again.

Thanks, guys. Everything you have said is what I have heard from others as well. Especially regarding the big boats on the weekend and that mile marker 1 - 30 is the worst.

My wife works with someone who has a cabin on the south end by Canmdenton that we can use. They said it is the "quiter" end of the lake. If we go, we plan on a trip during the week so we don't get tossed around everywhere and can run the entire lake.

If anyone else has comments, please chime it!! 8)

Just go... LOTO is Great fun! If it's choppy trim up and go slow. There's also many many areas that aren't too bad on the weekends.

Have Fun!

I like it at night. Glassy and tranquil. Cocktails, girls, tunes... good times.

Well - we finally got our adult trip figured out. We usually boat up to NE Iowa and make camp at McGregor (Buyfire knows the area well) but decided on the Ozarks for something different.

Only 3 couples and my boat this year, but we are staying at the Holiday Shores Resort (MM 17) in Osage Beach. We will be there Sunday, August 1st - Thursday, August 5th. If there is anyone in the area, let me know!!

Have you considered Mark Twain Lake in Northern Missouri?

Deep lake can be busy on holiday weekends but no where near as bad as LOZ. We were there a week ago and it is about 20' high right now with all the rain but they are slwoly draining it off. We put in at Ray Bahrens COE park near the damn. 3 wide boat launch. Beach areas in a few spots, good fishing if your interested. They have cabins, haven't stayed in any we have our condo on wheels instead.

Just a thought.

PS sorry I see you have your res. already.

I'm about 4 hours away and have the 4-6 of Aug. off. I'll talk with the wife about making a run down.

Tablerock Lake

Postby u140669 » Wed Jun 02, 2010 2:01 pm

We love Tablerock Lake which is close to Branson. Over 800 miles of shoreline so it's a large lake. Our family has vacationed at resorts on the lake for close to 30 years. Try Brideport Resort in Cape Fair; nice lake view, quiet end of lake. Last year we built a retirement home on the lake. It's great having our own boat slip and the lake in my backyard!

Actually, Yes. We were considering MTL as an option this summer too. We have a few friends that go there every year, love the lake and stay at the South Fork Resort (or something along those lines).

I was going to run down there this spring to check things out, but unfortunately ran out of time. I hated to book something sight unseen and some others wanted to hit the Ozarks. So, that's how we ended up at LOZ. Might hit MTL next year though.
