Lake Travis landed this years APLZs signature event, Brad Paisely is performing Saturday and there are hundreds of other events to participate in, Sounds like a good reason to become part of a floating Isle of Caravelle....check out the event pics from last year on Facebook....The reservations are free with boat registration number, The Reserve is renting weekly slips for the event, they are a little costly.....but plan on being there.....

crowds

Postby BBCOON » Fri Apr 23, 2010 4:30 pm

I am not crazy about crowds either but this is in our back yard and is on a very full Lake Travis near Pace Bend....Lots of Room, I think the key will be to surround yourself with the crowd of your choosing.....or hit Canyon that Saturday, it should be empty

Hey HP & Thunder!

HP yes-sir that would be one long ride just to splash around in some warm water (warm to you that is!)

Thunder - Lake Travis is one of the clearest lakes in Texas - has about 30' visibility when I scuba dive there. The lake is over a lime stone base and that keeps the water very clear.

Super nice lake (when it's full of course) 63.75 miles long and about 4.5 miles at it's maximum width. It covers about 18,929 acres. Max depth is about 210' and has an average depth of about 62'.

So, hopefully next years pics of the event will show real nice water!

I'm sure it never looks like that. What I was meaning is I saw the crowd, WOW a lot of boats and people and I am sure nobody was getting out and going to the rest room with all the drinking going on.

oh yeh that!

That is the draw back to those big gigs! Carlos and Charlies has a big 4th of July fireworks on Lake Travis every year and I came zipping around the corner one evening headed to the ramp (running late of course) and when I rounded that corner - OMG - I bet there were a couple of hundred boats floating watching the fireworks.

Took me about 15 minutes to weave my way around before I could get zipping again!

I'm not big on crowds either and not sure if I'll be in the area that weekend or not.

Down side to 4th at Carlos and Charlies

Postby BBCOON » Mon Apr 26, 2010 3:53 pm

We were out two years ago for the 4th on a friends 23 foot Tige, and on the way back to his lake house we found out that when all those boats leave at the same time it get a bit scary....we all put on vest. The wave crashed over the boat and you could not see them coming, and they were from all sides. We had friends with us in a deep V crownline 26 footer that had the same story....will not do that part at night again...sucked, nothing like a boat full of kids and women in dark boat filled lake.

We were going to go and I had reserved an rv spot as well...I started thinking about 10,000 boats leaving that evening and we said never mind. I like a crowd but thats too many!

Travis is a great lake if you have not been there!
