4 blade prop suggestion, 2003 242 V8 or maybe a dual prop? ive seen some pretty cool Dual Props but dont know anything about them and the benefits of having them rather than a reg prop...

My RPM gauge was broken so need to send it in to get it replaced so wouldn't be able to tell what RPM's I top out at.

Thanks for any advice given.

Mark, dual props only work on a Mercury Bravo3 or Volvo DuoProp drive; they have extra gearing to counter rotate the props. I would guess you have the 350Mag Bravo1 drive on your 242 but we will need to know for sure in order to make suggestions on different props.

Dual Prop and boat not running right

Postby mar0170 » Mon Apr 15, 2013 7:48 pm

I have a
Engine
Volvo Penta 5.7 GL-G

Drive Unit
Volvo SX-M 1.51

Transom assembly
TSK SX-MLT

I took the boat out for the first time this past weekend. I had gotten it back from the shop, they dewinterize, changed the oil and checked the other fluids. When i was running my boat year i was getting a top speed of about 48mph.. I don't know the RPM's because that gauge is not working.. Sat I was topping out at 36mph. and the motor was not idling a little rough... This being said it took me forever to plain out. any suggestions on what might be wrong?

I really like my rev 4. Pulls like a beast with little loss of speed.

I believe the GL-G has a carb on it rather than fuel injection. It sounds like it may be starving for fuel or bad fuel; do you know if a stabilizer was added to the gas before it was winterized? If not you may need to get rid of the gas in the tank and replace with fresh gas and change the fuel filter. I've also had good luck adding Lucas Oil Injector cleaner to help clean things up.

thanks Muncie6spd, I will have to add some Stable since I didn't add any when I got my boat back from the shop. will try that and go from there. if that doesn't work I will have to dump out 40 gals of gas
