What do you guys think of the Mirage Plus?

The propeller on your boat has a big impact on the performance of your boat. This is the place to discuss this subject.

What do you guys think of the Mirage Plus?

Postby iammarcuse » Thu Nov 01, 2012 12:14 pm

I am looking at another prop for my 232 Interceptor w 6.2L/Bravo One. Right now I have a 21p Vengeance. The tach wasn't working properly when I bought the boat so I am not sure of actual RPMs. I am looking for a 21p Enertia but have not found a used one yet.

In the meantime I have a line on a very good price for a 21p Mirage Plus. I was wondering what you guys think of this prop on these boats? I always like to have a spare prop anyway, but if it is not a good fit I won't bother. Thoughts?

Thanks. I was really looking for first hand experience on an Interceptor.

if the price is right, it's a fine prop on our hulls. you might also keep your eyes open for a 21P ballistic. better performance, cheaper price. i've had great performance on every boat i've owned with this prop. if money is no object, many would steer you towards an enertia. i would LOVE to see a true side by side comparo of these 2 props. but it won't be me, the enertia doens't come in a 25P.
Boatless, again.

Thanks. I had a screaming deal on the Mirage at $125 but may have lost it as I left it too long trying to get a sense of whether it was the right prop. I will know by the weekend if it is still available. The thing I was hesitating on was it was repitched from a 23 to 21 which seemed a bit excessive. Usually it is just one pitch.
If you really want an Enertia for your big block then look for a Fury. The Fury is the same material and concept but go up to 27p. I had one on my last boat and they rock. You probably would need to drop a pitch. They run steep.

I've got a 21" Enertia I may be willing to part with. Send me a PM if you are interested. Since I installed the 19" Rev 4 top pull the grandkids a couyple of years ago, I haven't used the Enertia.

AWESOME iammarcuse!! The FURY came out 2 years ago as an extension of the ENERTIA in upper pitch for high HP rigs  I'd get a hold of basshawk for an ENERTIA. However, without KNOWING what you WOT RPMs are and the performance is I would hesitate to buy because of pitch. But. then again if you used her with the 21P you may be good to go, and, you can always resell if not the right one  Good Luck and have FUN!

I am pretty sure a 21 is the right pitch. It came with a 21 vengeance and the po also had a 23 Mirage. I have made Basshawk an offer and hope it is coming my way.

I've had good results w/ the Mirage Plus.
By boat came w/ a 23p Vengeance w/ a small diameter (13.5).
First time out it took approx 2800 rpm to plane, I hit 5000rpm at 58mph
Tried a Mach SternDriver 24p, planed at 2200rpm, hit 4800rpm at 65mph
Ordered a 25p Mirage Plus, planed at 2300rpm, hit 4700 rpm at 68mph

All tested on a 232 Interceptor w/ the 496 MAG
Current Boat: 232 Interceptor B/R - 496 Mag

Past Boats:
Checkmate 219 Persuader - Procharged 454
Crownline 225 B/R - 454 MPI
Stratos 201 - 225 Evinrude
Hydrodyne Nexstar V226 - PCM GT-40
Glastron Carlson CV-23 - 350

Thanks BBM. That is some serious improvement.

I did end up getting the 23p Mirage Plus that was re-pitched to 21p and balanced. It was such a good deal. It was only $145 shipped with a hub kit. I figure I can't go too far wrong. If nothing else I can keep it as a spare.

Does the Mirage have decent grip in turns? What gear ratio does your rig have?

Yeah, it was night and day difference from the little Vengeance that was on it. It may have went a little faster than 58 w/ that prop but I didn't try because it hit 5,000rpms real quick and the max WOT operating range on my motor is 4400-4800.
The Mirage seems to handle very well overall. Definately provides more bow lift at high speed w/ trim than the others I tried. Best overall for handling/towing is was the 24p 4 blade.
