Best Prop for...

The propeller on your boat has a big impact on the performance of your boat. This is the place to discuss this subject.

Best Prop for...

Postby Johnny HotFoot » Sat Jun 09, 2012 7:11 am

I'm a noob to this forum but not to boats

Forgive me for not searching, but I'd like some responses

Just got a 1999 Interceptor BR, it has a strange prop on it, pointed blades sorta...told it's a ski prop?

but the edges are rough (not perfect) so I'd like to replace it soon...

I want a few suggestions: top speed prop, tube prop, general all-around cruising prop...

350 Volvo Penta, SX drive,

THANKS in advance

ENERTIA is best all around. Best pulling, a 4 blade like Merc Rev 4.
Welcome here

I have the 17P 4 blade REV 4 and love it. As HP says, it's great for pulling and I only lost about 1 mph off the top end.

I picked up an alum 14 1/4" 3 blade 19P over the weekend... if it's not a great prop I'll save it as a backup...

pulled the prop off that the previous owner had on, he was an avid skier... it was a SS Ballistic (346034) 3 blade 14 3/8" 21P

It had some work done to it, it wasn't stock, but alas it was chewed up pretty bad with a couple dog ears and had to come off, I'm taking it to a prop shop today to see if it's repairable or just something to hang on a wall???

did a little speed testing last night with the new prop but it was pretty rough out... saw 47 mph (gps) at 5500, which is down from 53 mph with the 21P.... it did jump to plane in under 3 seconds!

I am pretty sure I wanted to go the other way and maybe turn a 23P, maybe higher? I am after all around performance with a lean to top speed...

suggestions??? thanks

As stated before, Enertia seems to be what you are looking for. Rev4 for water sports.

I like the idea of a 4 blade... is there a cheaper version of the Rev 4?

what size and pitch in the rev 4? again, I'd like a speed prop more than anything, but just don't want a slug to get on plane...

also I need to know the ratio in my SX drive... any one know the ratio in a 1999 SX?

I seem to be able to run right past the 5500rpm mark.... could my rev limiter have been disconnected when the competition cam was stuffed into the volvo GS 350?

1999 232 BR 350 volvo GS, captains call, SX Drive and all I know beyond that is there's been a competiotion cam shoved in...

she runs like a top but revs to the moon... I'm thinking I need a 4 blade with quite a bit of pitch to it to settle my revs down to 5200-5500???

Is it likely my drive is a 1:60 ratio?

What is the fastest GPS non modified 232 350 mag interceptor on this site. How fast and what prop was used to do it. I assume a 21ft interceptor with identical prop and engine would be faster because of less weight. Have 232 and am just curious what you guys have seen.

that's an excellent prop for top end on your setup. but you're right, it's not worth repairing for that price. if you look hard enough, you may find a new ballistic for that price.

that 22P high5 mentioned above may be a good option for you for pulling.
Boatless, again.

I'm not looking for a pulling prop, I have that in spades with the 3 blade 19P I picked up...

I'm looking for a top speed prop, that will get me on plane in a reasonable amount of time even with a full boat

My local guru thinks a 4 blade 22P is the ticket... but the Rev 4 is only in a 21P and 23P???

what are my options? 3 blade 23P?

I think there's a Bravo 4 blade 22P?

I still need help with this, thanks
