Winch Strap Life

Just wondering how often you folks change your winch straps?

Just did mine and so far as I can tell its an original (2007)

And it looked like it needed to be replaced,,,

Mine fell apart at the end, last year, had to be replaced (6 years old) was not very expensive. When I retrieve the boat I only use about 3' of the strap but it depends on the slope of the ramp,It would be very dangerous for it to snap on a steep ramp. Just replace it , it's not worth the risk.

Same here, I only end up using 3 feet of mine, but it looked faded and worn and thats why I replaced it.

Just wondering if others are doing theres at some set timeframe like 2 or 3 years, mine was 5 years old.

Same here! I only use a few feet of it.

I usually have to replace mine every 3-4 years. With mine, the strap itself is fine, but just the stitching at the end that holds the hook on tends to start unraveling. I always hate having to throw it away because just the last 3 inches starts to fray.

Mine came apart at the ramp. Had to improvise to get it home safely. As AndrewT said, they are not expensive, so I replaced mine and bought another to throw in my truck for backup.

Thanks

Mine is the original too, 6 yrs. old. I was just looking at it this weekend and thinking of replacing, it's looking a little rough. I'll probably go ahead and do it this weekend.

The life of it really depends on if the boat is stored inside or outside during it's life. My Interceptor is an '04 and I bought it 3 years ago. I changed the wench and strap when i got it. I've got a 96 Basscat bass boat that still has the original winch/strap in good condition. But it's lived in a garage it's whole life until 4 years ago when it moved to a boat house!!
