2002 Caravelle Fuel Tank

Got a tip on maintenance. Need help with a repair? This is the place to ask.

2002 Caravelle Fuel Tank

Postby seaboyblue » Fri Aug 05, 2016 6:46 pm

Hello. I am about to embark on a major project with my Caravelle 23 WA. I recently discovered that I have a leak in the tank and needs to be replaced.
I have been in contact with Caravelle and they are of no help what so ever. Has anyone replaced a tank on their 23' WA? I would like to know where to cut in order to get this tank out? Is there a template or schematic diagram of this hull? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Toni

I've marked out where i want to cut. Just checking to see if theres any other way of getting this tank out without chopping deck.
I was thinking via the centre fishbox. What are your thoughts?

Man that sucks dude. I would exhaust every possible option before cutting the deck. Is the tank its self leaking or something at the flange/s? I would rule out flange and fittings because they should all be accessible under those plates. A long long time ago I remember a company that made bladders for custom tanks. I just did a quick search and turned up nothing so it may have been a dream or there not made anymore. Good luck with it!

I suspect a hole in the tank. Purchased new tank and now ready to cut deck.
I know there's been a few more projects on this model. Checking to see if anyone here has done so yet. Common problem on these models apparently.

I replaced my fuel tank on my 2004 Caravelle SeaHawk 200. Had a leaking 75 gallon poly tank, replaced it with a 90 gallon aluminum tank. Was a major project, but you can't even tell we cut the floor. Gave me solid peace of mind, knowing that my hull / stringers are sound, and my fuel system from filler to tank to motor is brand new.

My thread about my journey in ownership on this boat is here:

Decided to cut her open today. This was the easiest option in my opinion. So here she is with an open belly! I'm going to replace all exposed hoses to the thru hull fittings, new 130 gal tank from RDS and seal her back up.

Also a video link of the rotten tank!
