1997 bowrider 209 overheating

Postby Jswigart » Mon Jun 20, 2016 8:10 pm

I'm trying to figure out what is going on with my Caravelle bowrider 209. The engine runs fine and runs at the correct temp of 160 through the no wake zone. Then when accelerating to plane the first time it will overheat. When I cut it back to an idle the temp goes back down. Usually then it will be fine the rest of the day.
I did let the boat set in storage for several years. I suspect that the impeller is bad but the symptoms don't make sense to me. It seems if the impeller was bad it would keep on overheating.
Any ideas?

It's defiantly your impeller. Not sure about your particular make and model how to go about changing it. I personally change mine every other year to play it safe and always have an extra on hand. It's a 2 hour job if you've done it before. The first time plan on all day.
