Question about valve in the bilge

Postby Jaimeson » Mon Feb 11, 2013 3:35 pm

Down in my bilge on one of the plumbing lines, there's a hand valve. Any clue as to what it's for? I can get a pic if needed.

That should be your seacock valve for your livewell and washdown pump. If it hasn't been turned in a while, it may not want to. Spray some lubricant on it and let it sit a day, then try again.

In a perfect world, never....but you know we don't live in a perfect world! If your hoses to the washdown pump or livewell pump started leaking, you would need to be able to turn if off. If memory serves me right, it only goes from straight up to 1/4 turn or maybe side to side 180 degrees (1/2 turn). I usually spray it with lubricant, then open/shut the handle 6 or 8 times, every six months to keep it from coroding. Actually I'm glad you posted this because I last sprayed mine last summer.

WD40 is okay. I've used that, CRC and several others I can't remember the names. Really, any good spray lubricant will work.

Think I'm gonna hit it with some PB blaster, that stuff always works good.
