Lost performance.

Postby chambers1517 » Fri Oct 07, 2016 10:49 am

I have a 2008 232 interceptor 232 with a 350mpi. I had an intermittent 2 beep per minute alarm. It would also get an alarm at wot 5200rpm and lose power until being brought back to idle. It would also stall if you throttle back too fast. It was hard to start at times also. I took it to a performance boat shop and they tried it out. They said it had a cracked intake and the oil was getting water in it. They quoted $3200 to install a new intake. I decided to do it myself. I started taking it apart and the intake looked fine. I went all the way to removing the heads. Everything looked fine including all gaskets. I put all new gaskets and replaced the manifolds and risers. It started and ran perfect. No alarms or stalling. Sound like a brand new boat. Before I started having issues it would run 59.25mph gps with me only at 5200rpm. Now it runs 52mph at 4800rpm same load. It rund perfect but it is not as fast. Compression is 185 on all 8 cylinders. Timing is set correctly. WHAT IS IT. It's driving me nuts.

Did you ever see any evidence of water in the oil?

I did that is why I took it apart all the way to putting new head gaskets on. Now there is no water in the oil and it runs great. It's just lost top end.

So it ran at 5200 prior and now only 4800? Does it hit the rev limiter? Did you change props?

Is the butterfly on the intake opening all the way?
