Welcome to the NEW format!

Postby Rivertown » Thu Jul 18, 2013 10:21 pm

The forum has been updated to a newer, more secure version - a necessity that had to be done in order for our site to be accepted at our new hosting provider. I want to thank everyone for your patience the past few weeks while the site was down. I know it will take a little time to get accustomed to the new format (I am having to learn the new format myself) and some may not like the change, but I think we will get used to it and find that it will work better than the old VERY outdated version we had before. We kept the old format longer than we should have, because I was not confident it could be upgraded without losing the database with several years of valuable information. It appears that the information has remained in tack through this upgrade.

Should the forum experience another episode of downtime in the near future, please remember to go to http://www.caravelleboat.NET for status updates.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the Caravelle Boat Forum!

Thank you for getting this site back up. I must admit, you dont miss something until its gone, and I really missed this site!

on a side note - is it just me, or do we no longer have a main page? Site opens right to Forum for me.

Nope - couldn't let that happen! :-) There were a few posts about the server change, but I didn't anticipate the site having an issue with the new host and it being down for a month. Please make note of http://www.caravelleboat.NET. Should the site be down in the future, you can check there for status updates. Also, with the upgraded forum I have the capability to send out a mass email to the members now for any pre-planned outages.

Yes, an email was sent out by the programmer using the admin@caravelleboat.com email address. If you didn't get it, check your spam folder. It may have appeared as spam on some computers (depending on your spam settings) since is was a mass mailing.

Rivertown: many thanks!

On the old site, when I logged on, it showed me how many posts there were since last log on. Will that be available here. I really liked only going through the new posts.
Thanks.

That feature is still here. From the "Board Index" page - just below the words Board Index is a link " View Unread Posts " this will narrow down the list to the posts you have not read since you last logged out. Also, if the icon on the left side of the forum categories is "red", then there are posts in that category that you have not read.

Hope that helps...

Not everyone is happy with the change (as expected). Give me a little time to learn the new forum myself, and I should be able to do some customization to make it a little more "appealing." It's still a "newborn" baby. Thanks for your continued support of this forum.

I was just excited that we didn't lose the whole thing!
