|
|
I decided last weekend to try and come up with a solution for the flare in the windhsield from the instrument panel, especially at night. I know a guy with access to a machine shop, so I drew up a visor made from stainless that will slip behind the top edge of the dash panel, follow the elliptical contour and mount without drilling anything.
The first prototype was done yesterday but it wasn't wide enough to got the whole instrument panel. Hopefully will have this done and installed before this coming weekend. I am going to powdercoat in matte black and think it will look pretty good and be very funcitonal. I will post some pictures when installed.
Providing this works and anyone else is interested in them, the guy I have making them can produce, powder coat and ship. I've already asked him to come up with a price and will relay that info when I have it as well.
OK, I got them installed and they work great and work. I think they look pretty slick as well. Let me know what you think!

I feel your pain basshawk but why go to all the trouble whan you can just add a rheostat (dimmer) and turn the dash lights down low at night?
Like this......

This is the first one I happened to come across doiing a quick search, there are many more and I'm sure you could do better on price.

For some strange reason I want to check the gauges anytime I'm running the boat! I keep an eye on the temperature, voltage and oil no matter what time of day it is. I just got the second prototype done and made them larger. They get powdercoated today and should have them isntalled for the weekend. The biggest pain is getting the dash plate loosened up enough to slide the tabs behind it on the driver side. I think I'll get a 5/16 deep socket which should make that much easier. They turned out looking pretty cool! _________________ 2004 212 Interceptor, Volvo 5.0 GXi, 21" Enertia & 19" Rev 4 |

Very nice mod. I have not had this problem but it looks like it should be the cure.
Your black carpet. Where did you get it, or did it come black from the factory? I have always wanted to change the grey carpet out of mine for black with the Interceptor logo embroidered in the middle like the carpet on a Baja. _________________ '07 Intercepter 192ss

Looks like it could be dangerous if the boat came to a sudden stop and you were thrown forward.
I think I will go with the dimmer option. |

SummerDaze, I got some cheap rubber backed marine carpet at Lowes and used the stock carpet as a pattern to cut it out. I installed the snaps and was good to go. I will end up doing this again when it is time for new carpet. The cost was less than $100 for everything and new carpet made to fit from anywhere else was over $400. _________________ 2004 212 Interceptor, Volvo 5.0 GXi, 21" Enertia & 19" Rev 4 |

Poolman, I thought of that after installing it. The shot with the steering wheel is with the wheel raised up pretty high. But accidents can happen when you are least expecting it. The windshield is another hazard that you will hit if the boat stops suddenly, but I guess I'll risk that one as well. _________________ 2004 212 Interceptor, Volvo 5.0 GXi, 21" Enertia & 19" Rev 4 |

If you're going for the shield option that is certainly the way to do it.
Nice neat job.......

Looks great, enhances the look of your Interceptor.
Just to keep the NTSB happy, maybe adding some vinyl trim around the edge would decrease the decapitation factor.
Looks great though. _________________ '98 Caravelle 188FS |

Nortok, I thought about that and have some of that black edging, but it's not really in the way at the moment and believe I would hit the windshield first. NOt much of a concern for me. I do like that I can now look forward throuogh the windshield during the day without seing the dash outline and at night without the glare. Works pretty well! _________________ 2004 212 Interceptor, Volvo 5.0 GXi, 21" Enertia & 19" Rev 4 |
